The Government of India has decided to develop 100 ‘Smart Cities’ in the country. The smart city means different things to different people. It could be smart design, smart utilities, smart housing, smart mobility, smart technology etc. The book Smart Cities Transforming India is the outcome of the contributions made by the delegates who participated in the national seminar held on 3 May 2015 at Uttar Pradesh Rajarshi Tandon Open University. The book highlights the various issues, challenges and opportunities of smart cities, and its relevance in the development of country. The book contains thirty three chapters comprising both managerial and technological aspects of smart cities.

De regering van India heeft besloten 100 “Smart Cities” in het land te ontwikkelen. Een slimme stad betekent voor verschillende mensen verschillende dingen. Het kan gaan om slim ontwerp, slimme nutsvoorzieningen, slimme huisvesting, slimme mobiliteit, slimme technologie enz. Het boek Smart Cities Transforming India is het resultaat van de bijdragen van de afgevaardigden die deelnamen aan het nationale seminar dat op 3 mei 2015 werd gehouden aan de Uttar Pradesh Rajarshi Tandon Open University. Het boek belicht de verschillende kwesties, uitdagingen en kansen van slimme steden, en de relevantie ervan voor de ontwikkeling van het land. Het boek bevat drieëndertig hoofdstukken met zowel bestuurlijke als technologische aspecten van slimme steden.
